Location & Arrival

Ludwigsburg on the Neckar, a town with a great past, is also often referred to as the "Town of Palaces and Gardens" or "the cradle of poets": Eduard Mörike and Justinus Kerner were born here and the lives of Friedrich Schiller, Carl Maria von Weber and Christian Schubert are also closely associated with the city. From the year 1704 onwards, Duke Eberhard Ludwig ordered the building of a huge castle (modelled on the lines of Versailles) and the entire town layout along with other castles in the area. Ludwigsburg thus became the residence of the Dukes of Württemberg. Today, Ludwigsburg is primarily an educational and administrative centre and the cultural centre of the Ludwigsburg urban district. The hostel is on the eastern outskirts of the town, on the Schlösslefeld field, above the Neckar bridge.
